We’re Done Trying To Be Perfect

Honestly, life has been throwing us curveballs for a while now, and we finally realized something:

Trying to be perfect all the time just isn’t realistic anymore.

For a long time we were focused on strict keto and low carb eating. And while some of it worked, we also started realizing it wasn’t feeling very sustainable for us long term.

Beth was actually the first one to bring it up.

She said she was getting tired of all the heavy fats that come with traditional keto eating, so we started researching different approaches and found something that honestly makes a lot more sense for our lifestyle right now:

Higher protein. Lower carbs. Lower fat. More balance.

The more we looked into it, the more it seemed to fit where we’re at in life.

The goal now isn’t perfection.

It’s consistency.

It’s feeling better.

Having more energy.

Getting stronger.

Reducing stress.

Moving more.

And building a lifestyle we can actually maintain without feeling miserable.

Because the truth is… life hasn’t exactly been easy lately.

My work schedule changed, and now I have Monday and Tuesday off instead of weekends. Beth works a normal Monday through Friday schedule, so trying to figure out time together has honestly been difficult.

We had to stop looking at it like a problem and start figuring out how to make it work.

So now we’re adjusting.

We’re planning evening walks together during the week. Sunday evenings are becoming our time to get outside, relax, and start learning something completely new together.

Which brings us to the kayaks.

Yep… we bought kayaks.

And honestly, I think this might end up being one of the best decisions we’ve made in a long time.

We wanted something active that didn’t feel like punishment. Something that got us outside, away from stress, away from screens, and doing something together.

So we picked up a couple beginner kayaks and decided we’re just going to learn as we go.

I’m sure there’ll be mistakes.

Probably a few funny stories.

Maybe a few wipeouts too.

But that’s kind of the point.

This whole new direction in life is less about trying to be perfect and more about actually living again.

To be honest, the lack of overtime lately has stressed us out financially too. And stress has a way of affecting everything.

Money stress leads to arguments.

Arguments lead to frustration.

Frustration leads to giving up on workouts, eating right, and routines.

We caught ourselves slipping into that cycle and finally said:

No more.

We’re choosing a different direction now.

Walking instead of sitting around stressed.

Kayaking instead of constantly eating out.

Lifting weights instead of giving up.

Working together instead of fighting against each other.

And honestly… I think this direction fits us a whole lot better.

That’s the new direction for both our lives and this blog.

Not perfection.

Not fake motivation.

Not influencer nonsense.

Just two busy adults trying to rebuild their health, routines, relationship, and lives one realistic step at a time.

And maybe along the way, we can help other people our age realize they’re not alone in trying to figure all this out either.
