Last weekend ended up being one of those weekends that reminds you why it’s important to actually enjoy life once in a while.
I took a couple vacation days, so Friday night Beth and I decided to head downtown to Indianapolis with absolutely no plans at all.
No reservations.
No schedule.
No destination.
Just one of those:
“Let’s go see what happens” kind of weekends.
Honestly, those can end up being the best ones.

As soon as we got downtown Friday night, we realized the city was absolutely packed.
At first we thought about going to the baseball game, but it was completely sold out. So we drove around a little more and started noticing crowds everywhere dressed in Fever gear.
Turns out the Indiana Fever were playing.
Beth and I had both been wanting to go to a Fever game, so we looked at each other and basically said:
“Why not?”
So we grabbed tickets and headed inside.
And wow…
What a game.

The place was absolutely electric.
Not only did we finally get to see Caitlin Clark play in person, but the game itself turned into a battle. The Fever fought back late, tied the game up near the end, and sent the whole place into overtime.
The crowd was loud the entire night.
One of those games where everybody in the arena starts feeding off the energy.
Even though they didn’t pull off the win, honestly, nobody really cared by the end.
It was still one hell of an experience.
Definitely one of those nights where you walk out thinking:
“Yeah… that was worth it.”

The next morning we headed over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for qualifying weekend.
And if you’re from Indiana, you already know…
There’s just a different feeling around Indianapolis when Indy 500 month rolls around.
Even driving toward the Speedway feels exciting.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans on Saturday.
Cold.
Windy.
Rainy.
Pretty miserable weather honestly.
At one point it felt like we were paying admission to stare at wet concrete and weather radar updates.
But honestly?
We still had a great time anyway.
Sometimes those are the days you remember most because everybody’s just rolling with it together.

We walked around the Speedway, checked out the garages and vendors, watched the crowds, and just enjoyed being there.
The smell of race fuel, sunscreen, grilled food, and rain on hot pavement somehow just feels like Indiana in May.
And honestly, that’s hard to beat.

Then Sunday showed up and completely changed everything.
Sunny skies.
Mid-80s.
Perfect weather.
Basically the exact kind of day you want at the Speedway.

We got there early and stayed all day watching qualifying runs.
The cars were absolutely flying.
The crowd energy was awesome.
The Speedway was packed.
And it finally felt like summer officially started in Indianapolis.
There’s just something about hearing IndyCars scream down the front stretch on a perfect day that never gets old.

We ended up staying until the end of the day because we were having such a good time.
Honestly, weekends like this are important.
No crazy schedules.
No rushing around.
No nonstop stress.
Just good food, family, basketball, racing, and enjoying life for a couple days.
And after working nonstop lately, it was exactly what we needed.
