We’re Back — And This Time We’re All In

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here.

A lot has happened. Work and overtime got crazy, my schedule changed, and both Beth and I have been dealing with some injuries. She’s been having trouble with her hip and back, and I’ve been fighting my knee and shoulder. We’re both in physical therapy now and working through it.

So yeah, BB Fitness & Adventures kind of got put on the back burner for a while.

But we’re back.

I’m 49, 5’7” and about 195 pounds right now. I’m out of shape and not nearly as strong as I used to be.

Beth is 56 and wants to lose around 25–35 pounds.

Neither one of us is looking to become a fitness model. 😂 We just want to lose some weight, get stronger, feel better and be able to do more of the things we enjoy.

And this time we’re doing it together.

No Crazy Diet

We’re keeping the food pretty simple.

High protein, more fiber, lower fat and lower carb.

I’m shooting for under 75 grams of carbs most days.

Fasting is out. Between my morning meds, working second shift and never knowing when overtime is going to pop up, it just became one more thing to deal with.

I need something I can actually stick with.

So instead of chasing the perfect diet, we’re going to eat better food and make better choices most of the time.

There will still be pizza at some point. I know us. 😂

We’re Moving Again

Walking, biking, kayaking and lifting weights.

Nothing fancy.

We both have injuries we’re working around, so we’re not going to do anything stupid. We’ll keep doing our physical therapy, modify things when we need to and keep moving forward.

I’m also starting second shift, 3–11, with weekends off. Throw my overtime into that and there’s pretty much no chance of me following some perfect Monday-through-Friday fitness schedule.

So I’m not even going to try.

If I planned to work out Wednesday and overtime screws it up, I’ll do it Thursday.

If Thursday gets screwed up too, I’ll do it Friday.

Get it done when I can and quit making it more complicated than it needs to be.

Road to 50 — With a Cruise Waiting

I’m calling my part of this Road to 50.

I’m 49 now, and I want to see what I can do before I hit 50.

But we’ve also got something pretty good waiting for us along the way — a Caribbean cruise early next year.

That gives both of us a goal we can actually see on the calendar.

I want to step onto that ship lighter, stronger, feeling good and a whole lot more confident than I do today.

I’m not expecting perfection between now and then. I just want to be able to look back when we’re standing on that ship and know I put in the work.

Beth has her own goals for the cruise too, and we’re going after them together.

And really, that cruise is exactly why we’re doing this.

Not just to make a scale go down.

We want to be healthy enough to enjoy our life.

Walk more trails. Ride our bikes. Kayak. Travel. Explore new places. Take the Jeep out. Get outside and actually do stuff.

I don’t want getting older to mean we start doing less.

I want us doing more.

That’s what BB Fitness & Adventures is about.

We’re not starting from perfect.

We’re starting with a bad knee, a bad shoulder, a bad hip, a bad back, two physical therapy schedules, second shift and unpredictable overtime. 😂

Sounds like as good a time as any.

We’re back.

And there’s a beach somewhere in the Caribbean with our names on it.
